Three decades after the original McLaren F1 GTR secured an outright victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, only two other models from Woking have been deemed worthy of carrying its legacy, with the McLaren Senna GTR the latest and most extraordinary example. Conceived purely for the circuit, this track-focused hypercar pays tribute to Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna while embodying all of McLaren’s technical expertise.

Unlike the roadgoing Senna, which had been the company’s most track-oriented road car, the GTR was liberated from the constraints of road-car regulations and motor sport rules. Upon its debut, it was McLaren’s fastest track car outside of a Formula 1 racer, a singular machine where every detail from chassis engineering to aerodynamics and powertrain calibration had been honed to deliver uncompromising driver engagement.

Powering this extraordinary car is McLaren’s familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged M840TR V-8, now freed from secondary catalytic restrictions. With dry-sump lubrication, lightweight pistons and rods, and ultra-low-inertia twin-scroll turbochargers, the engine produces 814 horsepower and 590 pounds-feet of torque. These figures translate into unrelenting acceleration: 0 to 60 mph in less than 2.8 seconds, 0 to 124 mph in under 6.8 seconds, and a top speed over 210 mph.

Aero enhancements mark the GTR as a step beyond the already formidable standard Senna. The front splitter has been reprofiled with vortex generators to smooth airflow beneath the car, while the gargantuan rear wing is positioned higher and further back to maximize downforce. The result is over 2,205 pounds of downforce at 155 mph, achievable at lower speeds than the standard Senna, all while maintaining the same drag coefficient.

The carbon fiber Monocell III-R tub carries over from the road car, though the front track has been widened, and ultra-lightweight forged alloy wheels shod in bespoke Pirelli slicks replace the standard road tires. The suspension is fixed and optimized exclusively for track performance, improving mechanical grip in slower corners where aerodynamics are less influential. Active aero elements, including a hydraulically controlled rear wing and nose winglets, adjust in real time, acting as airbrakes, downforce generators, or drag-reduction devices. Under braking alone, the GTR achieves 3.0 g of deceleration, 20 percent more than its road-legal counterpart.

The race-optimized changes continue inside where a VBOX HD data logger, car-to-pit radio system, and FIA-approved six-point racing harnesses supplant road-car necessities. Plexiglass replaces glass, and even the signature transparent “side blades” from the roadgoing Senna are swapped for purely carbon fiber panels, all in the name of saving weight. The result is that despite carrying extra racing essentials like its pneumatic jacking system, the GTR weighs 24 pounds less than its roadgoing counterpart and tips the scales at 2,619 pounds without fluids.

With production limited to just 75 examples worldwide, ownership confers a rare privilege, making each Senna GTR as much a collector’s trophy as a track weapon. The example offered here stands out even among these already exclusive machines, coming from the collection of its original owner—a McLaren VIP client—and showing just 256 kilometers (~159 miles) at cataloguing time. The 53rd example constructed, it is cloaked in the spectacular McLaren Special Order finish of Amethyst Black—a $12,155 option—and further elevated with optional satin carbon fiber sill panels and gloss carbon fiber Aero Blade and canopy panels, totaling an additional $45,419.

Uniting race-bred performance, aerodynamic mastery, and exceptional rarity, the McLaren Senna GTR is the ultimate in track-focused hypercar engineering and a car destined to hold a place of honor in any collection.
