Offered here is an extremely rare Maserati Mexico presented in a “garage-find” condition. The owner of this example has dedicated a tremendous amount of time researching this particular vehicle and tracing back its roots.

According to a source at the Classic Maserati archival department at the Maserati factory in Modena Italy, chassis number AM1121242 was delivered directly from the Maserati factory in Italy to “Ghia of America” in Beverly Hills, CA in 1967. According to the correspondence, only 482 Maserati Mexicos were produced and only 22 were manufactured with an automatic transmission. The Maserati Mexico could be ordered either with a 4.2 liter V-8 or a 4.7 liter V-8 with this particular example boasting the larger displacement 4.7 liter engine with 290-hp.

Furthermore, this vehicle is also believed to be one only four automatic Maserati Mexicos in existence that is both in complete and running condition. It originally was Oro Longchamps Gold with a Maroon leather interior. It is believed to have been special order example for someone of significant importance, because of its unique color combination, its rare Ghibli three-point knock-off wheels, and its uncommon drivetrain configuration.

The prior owner before its current owner took this example down to bare metal, removing all of its original paintwork exposing its relatively straight body with very little rust. The reported Southern Californian doctor then repainted in the black that you see today and had the engine completely rebuilt approximately 12 years ago. The car was then left in storage for a long period of time and was recently acquired by its current owner who got it running by a Maserati marque mechanic. With the intention of a complete resurrection, the current owner unfortunately did not have the resources to complete the restoration.

Nonetheless, as of recent he was able to do quite a bit of mechanical work including; rebuilding the carburetors, refurbishing the gas tank, rebuilding the master cylinder, installing new brakes, lines, hoses, and rebuilding the front and rear calipers, flushing the radiator, and rebuilding the water pump.

The car currently runs and drives however needs a new home to bring it back to its former glory and do this rare automobile right. It is the perfect candidate for someone that wants an Italian grand touring car that is both unique and is like none other out there.
