3rd hand for 21 years Handling, versatility and reliability Model having received the latest evolutions of the range French registration Chassis: ZAM332B00JB207792 At the end of the 80's, Maserati continued its evolution by making a four-door version of its Biturbo presented a few years earlier as a coupe and a Spyder. Keeping the distinction between Italian and export models, the 430 marks a break with the 425 with a new front end, a 2.8 V6 engine with 3 valves per cylinder and a turbo per bank, a new front axle and a last generation Torsen autoblocker improving greatly its handling.
The car we present is registered in March 1989 in the name of Giulio Barbieri (former driver on Maserati A6CS/46 in the 50's). It stayed at the Maserati factory until December 16, 1994 where it had 38,246 kms on the odometer before a 1,500 km factory engine was installed with the latest evolutions on the range with the arrival of the 4-valve system: piloted suspensions, air intakes on the bonnet, front and rear spoilers, new front grille, new headlight blocks and wheels in 16 instead of the original 15.
Its second owner, who lived in Colmar, kept it until May 2000, taking care to carry out all the recommended operations before selling it to its current third owner with 78,500 km on the clock (41,750 km for the engine). If some bad tongues have lumped all the Maserati Biturbo cars in the same basket on their road quality, reliability or finish, they would be well advised to review their copy. Indeed, the interior of the 430 receives a special treatment with a large number of leather colors, wraparound seats or optional bucket seats, legroom in the rear seats and a more "modern" dashboard. Our example has aged very well and is equipped with an electric sunroof.
The interior has been entirely cleaned, as well as the bodywork, at a detailling specialist to bring back its bluish grey metallic colour. With 91,000 km on the clock, the car was regularly maintained by Pierre Nallet until 2004, when it was used more occasionally. During our test drive, we were surprised by the vigour of the engine whose turbos blow at low revs without stopping until 6,000 rpm. The five-speed ZF gearbox is precise, as is the front end, which is incisive and well supported by precise steering that perfectly conveys information to the steering wheel.
If the brakes have nothing to do with the current modern production, they are not ridiculous and offer enough bite to stop a car that does not weigh more than 1400 kg. Discreet, efficient and versatile, this car is to be rediscovered quickly as it is in the current trend. In town, even the stainless steel Orbisoud exhaust system installed in 2001 does not mar the almost flawless performance of this terribly appealing youngtimer. Note that we will give the buyer the original set of 15" wheels equipped with contact tyres as well as a second ZF gearbox.
