The Lotus Elan was first introduced in 1962 as a roadster and then as a coupé version in 1965. Over the years the Elan evolved into the Series 4, which was introduced in 1968. The S4 model benefited from a range of subtle upgrades along with the more noticeable upgraded body-shell that was slightly thinner and lighter than the earlier S3's. It also had flared wheel arches allowing for wider wheels.

The Elan was technically advanced with its twin-cam 1558cc engine, 4-wheel disc brakes and all independent suspension. It could reach 60mph in just 7.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 122mph. SE variants featured an increased power output of 118bhp and an upgraded close ratio gearbox. It is estimated that fewer than 1,200 of these cars remain on the roads today. The lightweight, powerful and agile performance make the Elan a great car to drive and even today there are few cars more satisfying to drive.

This particular Lotus Elan is a cabriolet S4, SE model that was first registered in 1969. Previously supplied by Paul Matty Sportscars in 2005, the car has passed through just two hands since this time.

Throughout its life this Elan has benefited from consistent maintenance which has included a replacement chassis and a full engine rebuild by Oselli Power. More recently, the car has received further significant work including a full re-spray in the original yellow colour, along with the fitment of a new hood, windscreen and professionally refurbished wheels.

Accompanying the car is a history file, which includes many invoices from marque specialists, including invoices from the renowned specialist Paul Matty Sportscars dating back to 1990, along with previous service records, MoTs, and an original owner's manual.

As a result of this Elans continuous restoration work it is presented in truly lovely condition. This car is ready to be enjoyed all summer long whilst the fitment of the new roof allows you to keep dry through all those summer showers!
