The Land Rover Defender was launched in 1948 and, incredibly, production only finished in January 2016 after a continuous run of 67 years. Outwardly, there is little to distinguish the post-1983 vehicles from the Series III Land Rover. A full-length bonnet, revised grille, plus the fitting of wheel arch extensions to cover wider-track axles are the most noticeable changes. Internally, coil springs offered a more comfortable ride and a permanent four-wheel drive system derived from the Range Rover featuring a two-speed transfer gearbox with a lockable centre differential. A modernised interior and a new series of progressively more powerful and modern engine characterised things under the skin.
This stunning looking example of this celebrated model is presented in Stornoway Grey with a black interior. The present owner purchased this vehicle at a Twisted open day in 2016 and used it as his daily drive.
The engine is the original 2.4 litre diesel but the rest of this 4x4 has been subtly modified, some with Twisted parts and others by specialists.Some of these modifications are LED light bar to winch bumper, KBX grille in gloss black, KBX light surrounds, Wipac LED headlights, Twisted aluminium sump guard, black aluminium chequer plate wing tops, Optimill security bonnet hinges, safari snorkel, Recaro front seats in Alcantara, Pioneer stereo (circa £2,000), BF Goodridge tyres and so the list goes on (full list of modifications can be found in the history file).This vehicle comes with two sets of keys, all handbooks in the Land Rover wallet including service book, many invoices from Topcats Racing of Aylesbury who have looked after the Land Rover whilst with the present owner.
