The final evolution of William Lyons’ trendsetting XK series Jaguars, the XK150, first appeared in mid-1957 as Jaguar’s response to such recently introduced rivals as the BMW 507 and Mercedes-Benz 300SL. The XK150 was plusher, more civilized, and substantially restyled, with a re-contoured beltline, wider grille and a one-piece windshield. The most fully developed of the XK series, the XK150 was powered by Jaguar’s silky-smooth 3.4L/213 HP inline-6 double-overhead cam engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The XK150’s lithe handling was the product of independent A-arm/torsion bar front suspension coupled with a leaf-spring mounted live rear axle.
Four-wheel disc brakes proved a big advantage for stopping this 3,330-pound car, which boasted a top speed of 123 MPH. The XK150 remained in production until succeeded by the revolutionary E-Type that followed in 1961. This 1958 Jaguar XK150 was purchased by Mario Sueiras from Steve Krantz of Illinois in rust-free driver condition. Mr. Sueiras performed a complete restoration on the car from 2005 to 2007 using parts and interior components from XKS Unlimited. The finished product can fairly be described as a work of supreme craftsmanship, one that literally showcases the passion Mr. Sueiras puts into every car in his collection.
