Ferrari’s 550 Maranello was a revolution when it was introduced in 1996. Refined, elegant, and phenomenally potent, it rewrote the rule book for the grand tourer, able to whisk two occupants and their luggage across Europe with minimal fuss, whilst also being able to leave contemporary supercars in its wake around any racetrack.
Ferrari were so pleased with its performance that they took a lightly modified 550 to the Transportation Research Center in Ohio, and in October 1998, it broke three records: 100 miles at an average speed of 190.2 mph, one hour at an average speed of 184 mph, and 100 kilometres at 188.9 mph.
This example is one of just 33 models that were subsequently built by Ferrari to celebrate the achievement. Most were finished in
Grigio
Silverstone over a
Rosso
interior, but a handful were finished in other colours, including this example in
Rosso Corsa
over
Nero
. As such, it features the Fiorano handling pack, leather-trimmed roll cage, Alcantara-clad steering wheel, and carbon bucket seats with four-point race harnesses. It is accompanied by its full complement of handbooks and tools and benefits from recent service in October 2019.
La Ferrari 550 Maranello fut à son lancement en 1996 une véritable révolution. C'était une voiture raffinée, élégante et extraordinairement bien motorisée qui redéfinissait les canons du grand tourisme : elle pouvait sans difficulté faire traverser l'Europe à toute allure à deux passagers et à leurs bagages, tout en étant sur n'importe quel circuit capable de laisser sur place les supercars de l'époque.
Ferrari était tellement satisfait de ses performances qu'il envoya une 550 légèrement modifiée en Ohio, au Centre de recherches sur les transports, où elle battit en octobre 1998 trois records : les 160 km à une moyenne de 306 km/h, l'heure à une moyenne de 296 km/h et les 100 km à 304 km/h.
La voiture proposée est l'une des seulement 33 produites par Ferrari pour célébrer ces succès. La plupart étaient gris
Grigio Silverstone
avec intérieur rouge, mais quelques-unes arboraient d'autres couleurs, comme celle-ci, rouge
Rosso Corsa
et intérieur noir. Elle est équipée du pack tenue de route Fiorano, d'un arceau de sécurité garni de cuir, d'un volant gainé d'Alcantara et de sièges baquet en carbone avec harnais quatre points de compétition. Elle dispose de l'ensemble de ses documents et outils de bord, et a bénéficié d'un entretien récent, en octobre 2019.
