Chevrolet followed up a 1958 fleet-wide restyle with another in 1959, and this big-block, Tri-Power, 4-speed Impala convertible stood at the top of a lineup that the company trumpeted as all new, all over again. One of the first in what would become a long line of Impalas, this 1959 Chevrolet Impala underwent a frame-off restoration, and the high-performance street machine is ready to live up to its legend all over again. Distinctive Slimline style was a significant departure from the squared-off '58 look, and white paint brings back the Magic-Mirror acrylic lacquer luster from the four-across headlamps to the signature batwing tail fins and cats-eye tail lamps.
Dropping the new convertible top reveals a spacious interior loaded with comfort and new-for-1959 features like door handles integrated into the armrests and a slim-spoke steering wheel. An optional Wonderbar signal-seeking AM radio automatically scans the airwaves, and the Impala comes with an accessory tissue dispenser in case the dual antennas pick up a particularly melancholy tune. Luxury is nothing without underhood fury, and the Impala packs a 348 CI Tri-Power V-8 and 4-speed manual transmission power team. The Super Turbo Thrust Special engine was equipped with triple carburetors and dual exhaust that made good on Chevrolet's 315 HP promise.
The Impala rolls on whitewall tires with full wheel covers and rear fender skirts for added elegance out on the road.
