For 1988½, Porsche introduced the upgraded the new 944 Turbo S, an upgrade from the previous Turbo model, which featured a larger Turbo with new fuel mapping and increased boost, plus a new aero package, stiffer chassis, improved clutch, limited slip differential, and brakes from the larger, V-8 powered 928 S4. From this desirable base, the car pictured here has been turned into a bare bones race car for the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) 944 Super Cup series. It has seen the winner’s circle in NASA competition, and it is also eminently suitable for track days, Time Attack, SCCA autocrossing and a host of other track series and activities.
The engine remains predominantly stock, upgraded with an upgraded ECU tune, free-flowing air intake, and sports exhaust system making 330 HP. The car is totally stripped down and a full roll cage added along with Sparco race seats, Schroth harnesses, Sparco racing steering wheel, Auto Meter instrumentation, Lexan windows, relocated battery, and lightweight body work with flared fenders to accommodate 18” forged Kinesis wheels wearing 305/35×18” front and 335/30×18” rear tires.
The suspension is upgraded with CUP adjustable coilover front Bilstein shocks, Koni sport rear shocks and larger rate racing torsion bars, all urethane bushings, front/rear Weltmeister sway bars, aluminum strut tower brace, camber plates, and Porterfield racing brake pads.
