The recipient of a two-year comprehensive nut-and-bolt restoration, this 1970 Porsche 911S is a stunning presentation finished in its Light Ivory exterior and appointed in black upholstery. Fitted with the signature 911S body trim—aluminum trim rocker panels, chin spoiler, thick rubber deco strips on the bumpers and the iconic Fuchs forged alloy wheels mounted on 185/70×15 radial tires—this car checks all the right boxes. It is additionally optioned with the factory-correct horn, grille-mounted fog lamps, polished wheels with detailed center caps, a leather-wrapped 380mm steering wheel and Pepita houndstooth seat inserts.
Featuring the matching-numbers 2.2L horizontally opposed engine fitted with Weber carburetors, producing over 200 SAE HP and backed by the correct type 901 “dog-leg” 5-speed manual transmission, this Porsche 911S is a formidable performer, even by contemporary standards. By model year 1970, Porsche had made significant evolutionary changes to the first generation 911. High-speed stability and improved weight distribution was achieved through a 2.2-inch increase to the wheelbase. Handling and braking was improved with a 6-inch wheel width and wider contact patch on the top of the line 911S. Engine displacement was also increased from 2.0L to 2.2L, achieved through a larger bore size.
The cumulative effect of these changes was transformative. The 2.2L engine provided additional torque and a wider power band, making the 1970 Porsche 911S an absolute joy to drive. The increased wheelbase vastly improved suspension dynamics by helping to alleviate the over-steer inherent to rear-engine weight bias design. The 4-wheel vacuum-assisted disc brake system stops the 911S with confidence-inspiring authority, while the front chin spoiler adds high-speed stability by providing the correct amount of downforce and limiting front end lift.
