The car we are presenting is the 12th T16 in the series of 200 built to obtain Gr. B homologation. Ordered by Matthieu Leandri from the Peugeot dealership in Ajaccio, it was fitted with a customer competition kit including an aluminium roll bar, a special exhaust manifold, bucket seats, harnesses and safety equipment. Identifiable by its registration number 19 EF 2A, it was entered on the 1984 Rallye du Maquis. The team was in 4th place when an electrical problem forced them to retire. After gaining experience, they were ready to take part in the 1985 Tour de Corse, the 5th round of the world championship. The car was number 32 and featured racing magnesium wheels.
After an encouraging start, the crew was once again forced to retire following a second electrical problem and a fire that was quickly contained by the battery. Following these repeated setbacks, and realising that a car of this type requires a substantial budget to be competitive, Matthieu Leandri reluctantly decided to part with his T16, which would go on to make a Côte d’Azur enthusiast very happy. Between 2004 and 2017, our T16 can be found in the Puy-de-Dôme region, with registration number 3034 YL 63. In 2009, it underwent an engine rebuild and was given a PTS livery. In 2017, Matthieu Leandri’s son Franz bought the car. He decided to restore it to its original configuration.
Over €15,000 will be needed to restore the bodywork to its Winchester Grey colour. Acquired in 2021 by its current owner, the car is now in very good condition. The interior is entirely original, with a slight patina and the original roll bar. The odometer shows just under 44,000 km. Mechanically, the original modifications are still in place, giving it more power than the original 200 bhp. The car recently underwent a major mechanical overhaul at the Aventure Peugeot workshops, at a cost of more than €10,000. On this occasion, the wishbones, callipers and distribution kit were replaced. This Gr.
B legend with a singular history stands apart from its counterparts, and there’s no doubt that it will win over collectors looking to relive the golden age of rallying.
