French registration title

Sold without contrôle technique Emile Darl’Mat, a Parisian dealer and coachbuilder in the mid-20e century, was responsible for some of the finest Peugeot-based creations known today: 402 Eclipse, 302 Darl’Mat etc... With the advent of self-supporting bodies, coachbuilders were faced with the inability to produce the works possible in the pre-war period.

Despite this, Emile Darl’Mat proposed a revised 203 very early on, lowering the body by 14 cm: roof height lowered by 7 cm,

bonnet height reduced, rear trunk completely redesigned, and above all an improved powertrain boosting power to 90 hp!

The history of our car has been known and followed since 1974, when it was built in Haute-Vienne by a certain C. Breton. It was bought in 1980 by Hervé Charbonneaux, a major European collector, who sold it in 1989 to a certain André de Cortanze! At the time, the genius engineer was technical director of Peugeot Sport, and won the 1995 Le Mans 24 Hours with the legendary Peugeot 905. The car was sold in 2001 to a collector in Savoie, before arriving in 2003 with its current owner.

In 1993, a major restoration was carried out under the supervision of André de Cortanze, taking care to preserve the (apparently original) upholstery. The Italian firm in charge of the work carried out all the mechanical parts and the bodywork (invoices and photos in the file).

Today, the car is still in very good condition, with a beautiful patina. The engine was restarted just before the sale, and is in

good working order| despite this, it will be necessary to carry out a routine check of the vital parts before the car is roadworthy again. It should be noted that our example is fitted with the extremely rare Taupin dashboard, and that its 4-cylinder engine, re-bored to 1,500 cc, is equipped with Nardi twin carburettors.

With only 11 examples on record, and eligible for a number of major events such as the Tour Auto, this sumptuous Frenchwoman will be a proud addition to any collection worthy of the name...
