While Packard surprised automobile-industry watchers and buyers with the launch of its new medium-price Junior models in 1935, the venerable luxury-car company enjoyed remarkable success with them. Competing directly with the likes of Oldsmobile, LaSalle, Chrysler and the Lincoln-Zephyr, the One-Twenty struck a chord with Packard buyers and sold strongly, thanks to its quality, mechanical excellence and streamlined body styling. This Fourteenth Series Packard One-Twenty Convertible is a wonderful link to Packard’s continued success during the challenging Great Depression years of the mid-1930s.

Offered from a private collection and benefiting handsomely from a fresh frame-on restoration, this 1936 Packard One-Twenty 2/4-Passenger Convertible Coupe is powered by an L-head 282 CI inline 8-cylinder engine factory rated at a robust 120 HP and paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. Equipped with Packard’s Safe-T-Flex independent front suspension with coil springs and a semi-floating rear axle located by semi-elliptic leaf springs, the One-Twenty also features such modern advancements as hydraulic drum brakes.

Offering accommodations for two additional passengers with its jaunty rumble seat, this One-Twenty is nicely equipped with a folding luggage rack on the rear, amber fog lamps, Packard’s signature Goddess of Speed radiator mascot and an optional radio. Color-matched steel wheels mounting chrome hubcaps, trim rings and wide whitewall tires finish it off in fine style.
