Bonhams|Cars is pleased to offer this outstanding 1970 Maserati Indy 4700. The car is one of only 364 Indy 4700s produced. Adding to its rarity, this specimen is fitted with the highly desirable ZF 5-speed manual transmission. The car was originally delivered new to Mexico City and eventually made its way to the United States. The grand tourer is fitted with air conditioning, power steering, alloy wheels, power windows, and an AM/FM radio.
This Indy was part of the respected collection of the Riverside International Automotive Museum for many years. Prior to joining that collection, the Indy received an upgraded 4.9-liter Maserati power plant for an even more exceptional driving experience. This example was the recipient of prior restoration work, likely while it was in the museum collection. The exterior received new paint and was finished in its original color combination of Azzurro Hyperion over Black leather interior, still presenting well today.
The Indy is often praised as one of Maserati's great road cars of the era. The classic Vignale coachwork perfectly emphasized the cars outstanding performance yet gives the car enough elegance to make it worthy of the trident on the hood. With its 4.9-liter engine, ZF 5-speed manual transmission, and desirable livery, this particular example is undoubtedly one of the finest. An excellent car for high-speed rallies such as the Copperstate 1000, this stylish Indy is ready for its next caretaker.
