Introduced in 2011, the Ferrari 458 Spider added an exhilarating open-air element to the magic of the 458 Italia, a breakthrough model that reaped huge rewards from multiple World Champion Michael Schumacher’s role in its development. The first mid-engined Ferrari berlinetta to sport an all-aluminum retractable roof panel, the Spider was widely acclaimed in the motoring press as the most complete and capable Ferrari to its time, the combined result of chief designer Frank Stephenson’s beautifully aggressive and aerodynamically efficient exterior treatment and the extensive integration of Ferrari’s formidable F1 technology into the car’s inner workings.
That expertise is no more evident than in the Spider’s grouping of midmounted 4.5L/570 HP DOHC 4-valve V-8 engine, 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and E-Diff3 electronic differential, which together launch the car to 60 MPH in an eye-opening 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed surpassing 200 MPH. Advanced aerodynamics, microsecond reactive suspension dynamics and Brembo carbon ceramic disc brakes with ABS all contribute to the Spider’s extraordinary handling stability at speed.
Brightly finished in Giallo Modena paint with front end paint protection film, this striking 2015 Ferrari 458 Spider shows off the requisite Scuderia fender shields and Pirelli P-Zero tires on black alloy wheels over yellow-painted Brembo calipers. The driver-focussed Nero (black) leather interior incorporates contrasting yellow stitching throughout, form-fitting bucket seats with yellow-stitched Prancing Horse emblems on the headrests, a carbon fiber steering wheel with Manettino switch and shift indicator light and carbon fiber dash, center console and instrument cluster trim.
For those who appreciate the exotic tones of the flat-plane crank-equipped V-8 residing amidships, there’s the addition of a Capristo remote-valved exhaust system at their fingertips, adding an extra charge to driving one of the most exciting supercars ever to prance out of Maranello and onto the world stage.
