Designed with considerable input from Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher, the Ferrari 458 Italia debuted as the most capable, powerful, beautiful and technologically advanced mid-engined V-8 Berlinetta in the company’s history. It was only a matter of time before a Spider version was unveiled, and that happened at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. In 2013, the 458 Speciale Berlinetta got tifosi pulses racing with an increase in power from 570 HP to 597 HP at 9,000 RPM, and tweaks to both aerodynamics and the electronic systems controlling the engine, transmission and suspension.
And like the original 458 Italia, the Speciale was followed by a Spider version, this time with the Aperta appellation added on to signify its open cockpit. The Aperta shared the Speciale’s searing acceleration, scalpel-precise handling and screaming exhaust note, and it was indeed the most powerful road-going naturally aspirated Spider in Ferrari history, until the 2017 arrival of the 790 HP LaFerrari Aperta.
Limited to just 499 units worldwide, the 458 Speciale Aperta features a reworked version of the 4.5L/597 HP V-8 with revised intake tracts, higher-lift cams, reduced-friction internals and a bump in compression, and the already-impressive 7-speed dual-clutch transmission was reprogrammed for quicker shifts. Suspension upgrades, a new generation of carbon-ceramic brakes and improved Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires fill out the Aperta’s list of track-oriented enhancements.
Finished in Giallo Modena with Blu NART striping, full-body clear bra and a leather interior, this 2015 Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta boasts the full gamut of available features, including carbon-fiber trim, Scuderia Ferrari cloisonné badges, Prancing Horse-embroidered headrests, front-and-rear parking sensors and a full entertainment and navigation system, and all in a pristine example driven just 1,207 miles. As one of the last of the naturally aspirated V-8 Ferraris ever built, this is one special machine.
