The Dodge Daytona could be had in the whole pallet of colors offered on Charger R/T, but there is something special when one of these cars is down to raw black and white. This example, beautifully refinished in W1 Spinnaker White with a black Daytona wing, was not just in a special color but is one of the 139 440 4-speeds built during the very abbreviated mid-1969 production cycle. Detroit subcontractor Creative Industries would construct just 503 Dodge Daytonas in total. This car has benefitted from a nut-and-bolt level rotisserie restoration, with some reversible performance upgrades installed as well.
This car has kept its matching-numbers 440 Magnum since day one, the 375 HP V-8 engine that was the mainstay of the Dodge’s R/T line-up. Now outfitted with a high-rise intake, Mopar Performance air cleaner and valve covers, MSD billet distributor, and headers feeding full exhaust with an X-pipe, it is ready to romp. Moreover, this car is presently equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, though both the matching-numbers 4-speed and original engine components will be included in the sale. Built on the assembly line as an A33 Track Pak, it features a Dana 60 with 3.54 Dana gears, power front disc brakes and a 26-inch radiator, which is still here.
Detailing continues on the underside as well. The factory-correct color is nicely contrasted by the wing and its matched black vinyl bucket seats with center console, ball-knob shifter, dash with clock and 150 MPH speedometer, woodgrain trim, and three-spoke sport steering wheel. Thumbwheel AM radio, driver’s side mirror remote and extra-cost pedal dress-ups complete it. Outside are functional hood pins, the Daytona-only aero enhancements, script Charger emblems, flip-open gas cap and five-spoke road wheels with Redline tires.
Featured in Muscle Car Review magazine, the sale will include the aforementioned parts, a fender tag decode reference and some original Charger Daytona advertisement literature. They came, they saw, they conquered, winning the 1970 NASCAR season crown for Dodge. Here in black-and-white, you too can be part of the legend.
