In 1951, Chrysler only built 650 Imperial Convertibles, marking this example as exceedingly rare. Few Imperials survive today, particularly from the early 1950s, let alone Convertibles in this condition. The exceptional state of this car garnered it an AACA award. Presented in subtle Quebec Grey with a blue leather interior and a black convertible top complete with a boot cover, the beautiful car is powered by the 331/180 HP Hemi V-8 engine with Fluid Drive transmission. The interior is equipped with a split front-bench seat, pushbutton radio, power windows, an in-dash clock, a heater and a defroster.

Outside, the car is well-appointed with bumper guards, fender skirts, chrome wire wheels and wide whitewall tires. A very rare car indeed, Chrysler took great strides to ensure Imperial offered customers an unusual alternative to the usual luxury-car suspects. One hallmark of Imperials was a very careful application of chrome and brightwork. The philosophy was almost European in nature: less is more, elegance and grace needn’t be shouted out and understated sophistication speaks louder by demonstrating less. It was a remarkable concept from an American car maker in the 1950s.

However, it was the early part of the decade, so things were just warming up with shiny décor—but even in full-swing, Imperial usually remained slightly more restrained than the competition. Chrysler was also renowned for its forward-thinking engineering designs which offered customers advanced chassis designs, more powerful engines and a robustness on par with tanks in many cases. Indeed, Chrysler offered a lot for the money and its Imperial line was no different. Today Imperials command their own unique following, often trading hands within their own circle. To see one of this caliber being offered publicly is truly a rare opportunity.
