Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac has revealed that he would like to see the Bugatti Tourbillon paired with a genuine manual transmission. At a time when hypercars increasingly rely on dual-clutch gearboxes and electric assistance, the idea of three pedals and a mechanical clutch sounds almost rebellious.

The naturally aspirated 8.3-liter V-16 produces up to 1,800 hp / 1,825 PS, while the standard Tourbillon uses an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Rimac says that if Bugatti builds a manual version, it would use a true mechanical setup rather than a shift-by-wire system.

Could such a gearbox handle the enormous output of the hybrid V-16? And what would happen if Bugatti combined it with the engine’s claimed 276-mph / 445-kph potential?

A manual Tourbillon would likely be extremely limited, potentially becoming a one-off project through Bugatti’s Solitaire coachbuilding atelier. Such a car could offer collectors something increasingly rare: massive hybrid performance combined with genuine driver involvement.
