This Volkswagen Golf GTi 1,600cc ‘Swallowtail’ is a superb example of the original first generation hot-hatch, now restored to collector condition.
Purchased in 2018 by its current keeper, the Golf underwent a two year sympathetic restoration. In heated storage since, covering just 20 miles. Fitted 1.6-litre inline-four producing around 110bhp, which is sent to the front wheels via a 4-speed manual gearbox. Stripped back to bare metal, it was subject to a glass-out full respray in its original black, black plastic wheel arch extensions with new black plastic bumpers and sits on refurbed 13" alloy wheels. Retrimmed throughout with new black and grey tartan cloth, new black carpets and complete with the iconic ‘golf ball’ gear knob.
The original dash and steering wheel were kept, with the added addition of a period-looking modern Blaupunkt radio with Bluetooth. Supplied with photographic evidence of the restoration, along with invoices and spare wheel. The 'swallowtail' swage line design is a characteristic of the very first Mk1 Golf GTis, making them particularly desirable among enthusiasts. Renowned for kick-starting the modern hot-hatch market, this beautifully presented example of the coveted Mk1 GTi has been carefully and sensitively restored to original specifications, with a period-perfect appearance.
