The car is said to start readily, and the vendor reports that no niggling problems have been encountered. Despite many miles having been covered, little remedial work has been required apart from a service. The car is said to pull strongly and stop perfectly following the braking system overhaul. Lancia's suspension systems were advanced for their day and offer a really comfortable ride. The drive is smooth with a lively V6 that is as happy pottering in traffic or accelerating seamlessly up to 70 without drawing breath (testimony to the simplicity of the single-carburettor set-up), pulling silkily to 5500rpm.
The body is reported to be in very good condition with no marks, although there are two blisters the size of a penny around 10cm above the rear wheelarches on both sides. A very common blemish, this is caused by the Superleggera aluminium body reacting to the supporting steel framework where the body touches the frame. When they left the factory there was a piece of felt between the two metals to stop the chemical reaction, but over the years this perishes. The chrome is said to be all good apart from the front grille surround, which could do with re-plating. Accompanying documentation consists of a V5C Registration Certificate, sundry bills, some old MoTs, two handbooks and a repair manual (in English).
Parts availability for these classic Lancias is excellent, with Omicron Engineering holding plentiful stocks. There are also marque specialists in Italy, Holland and the USA, as well as an enthusiastic owners' club. These cars cost as much as an Aston Martin DB4 when new and arguably were much better engineered; all the more amazing that they are so undervalued today.
