The Lamborghini Countach’s appearance at the 1971 Geneva Auto Salon shocked those in attendance. Its designer, Bertone’s Marcello Gandini, had also been responsible for the lovely Miura, yet the Countach could not have differed more, its blade-like features and skyward-opening doors posing a sharp contrast to the Miura’s fluid, almost romantic features. The Countach made quite a statement. It looked otherworldly and immediately became a favored bedroom wall poster for teenage boys throughout the world. The sleek car benefited from continuous performance upgrades through an unusually long run for a supercar.
The swan song for the model was announced in 1988 with the reveal of a special 25th Anniversary Edition Countach. The redesign by Horatio Pagani featured several exterior tweaks to both visually distinguish the 25th Anniversary Edition and to improve airflow and internal cooling. Power and handling were also enhanced, making this Countach the most refined and fastest of the lineage. The 25th Anniversary Edition entered production in 1988 and carried through to the introduction of the Diablo in 1990, a final exclamation point in the story of the ultimate bad-boy supercar.
Presenting in stunning Red with a black leather interior, this 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary Edition is one of only 657 produced.
