Nothing says “exotic car” like a Ferrari, especially when it comes to the Maranello firm’s rich heritage of compact mid-engine Berlinettas that began with the 206-246 Dino and carried on through the 308, 328, 348 and F355, the game-changing 360 Modena and the F430 that followed. All were brilliant machines imbued with the passion and performance symbolized by the Prancing Horse, which in 2010 found its way onto the flanks of the all-new 458 Italia that made better use of Ferrari’s F1 technology than any of its Berlinetta ancestors.
For starters, there are 570 thoroughbred horses on tap from the 4.5L 32-valve DOHC V-8 mounted amidships in front of the excellent Getrag F1 dual-clutch paddle-shift gearbox. Its adaptive magnetorheological suspension, sophisticated E-Diff and F1-Trac traction controls and massive carbon-ceramic disc brakes combine to produce 32-percent better handling than the F430.
Designed with input from multiple F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher, the cockpit is a mixture of the new and the traditional, with luxurious but firmly bolstered Italian-leather seats and dual-zone climate controls sharing space with carbon-fiber trim, all-digital instrumentation and the famed F1-inspired steering wheel with Manettino switch and large paddle shifters. Clever aero tricks are incorporated into the Pininfarina-designed Italia, most notably the lower front-mounted aeroplastic wings that change shape at speed to reduce drag and increase downforce, and channels atop the rear fenders to smooth air flow to the rear radiators.
This stunning Rosso Corsa 2012 Ferrari 458 Italia features a beige leather interior with contrasting Rosso stitching and Carbon Fiber Racing Package trim. Its wealth of optional extras includes Scuderia fender shields, yellow brake calipers, leather tunnel trim and headliner, iPod connection, electrochromic mirrors, sport sill covers and Tire Pressure Management System. Always dealer maintained and driven only 2,200 miles since new, this 458 Italia offers the breathtaking performance and style that remain exclusive to Ferrari ownership.
