This 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona was restored by no less a talent than Julius Steuer, owner of Restorations by Julius in Los Angeles, California. Julius has earned a reputation as a top-tier restorer of all things Mopar, and he directed all his talents at restoring and personalizing this Bright Red winged warrior. After discovering the car on a farm near Chicago, he shipped it to his shop and began the restoration by preparing the bare body with primer and block sanding. The painted Daytona was fitted with 11-inch OEM-style front disc brakes in place of the original drums, while the rears remained drum units.

At the same time, the original 15×7-inch painted steel wheels were kept up front and the rears were replaced with wider 10-inch units, with radial tires for added grip. The most significant departure from stock was the replacement of the original matching-numbers 440 CI engine with a 1968 426 Hemi, which Julius believes is a NASCAR-spec engine due to the block’s high nickel content and other clues (the original 440 is offered as part of the sale). The Hemi necessitated the use of a K-frame from Mega Parts, while the car’s TorqueFlite automatic transmission allowed the retention of the 8¾ rear end.

In completing the installation of the Legendary Auto Interiors kit, Julius added a custom tachometer designed by his son Robert and kept the original AM radio with 8-track tape player. A thoughtfully upgraded Charger Daytona built by a top Mopar restorer complete with Hemi power and the original 440; does it get any better for Mopar fans?
