Perhaps you are among the 1.3 million people who saw the YouTube video about this car or remember it from the cover of Hot Rod magazine back in 2015. This 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona is a true barn find, stored for decades by its original purchaser on his family’s farm and having had only two owners since new. This car was given Historic Vehicle Association First Place honors and represents an infamous “win on Sunday” package from the muscle car era. When its young owner was headed off for deployment in Vietnam, he carefully stored this treasured Hemi Orange-colored Charger Daytona.
Powered by the 440 Magnum V-8 engine with a 4-barrel carburetor, dual exhaust and A727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission, this is classic Mopar muscle. Of course, having started life using the factory Charger R/T, all 503 Charger Daytonas came with performance suspension, extreme cooling pieces and premium R/T-level trim as standard equipment. Parked a second time following a mechanical problem after its owner had returned home to the U.S., this car spent another 35 years in storage before returning to the street and its aforementioned notoriety in the muscle car hobby. The EV2-colored exterior is accented with a black wing and a matching black interior.
The unrestored body shows some added custom lettering and the Spirit of 76 flag livery, and the Daytona has a black interior that features reupholstered front seats (the original seat materials are included). It was optioned with headrest-equipped bucket seats, a C16 console with shift handle, a Tic-Toc-Tach and an AM radio. Of course, the Daytona’s trademark nose cone and wing, front fender scoops, functional hood pins, A-pillar trim and special rear window are also here. Magnum 500 wheels and whitewall tires are its final touches. Meanwhile, the provenance consists of two original broadcast sheets, original owner paperwork and both the owner’s manual and service manual.
There is even a 1/64-scale model by Greenlight Models of this specific Daytona. A real Charger Daytona with barn-find heritage, this very desirable muscle car is ready to continue on as a winner for a new owner.
