It has been 50 years since the original “flight plan” was determined, and the Dodge Charger Daytonas of 1969 set a standard for “win on Sunday, sell on Monday” extremes. Produced solely in the summer of 1969, the same era when American astronauts first walked the surface of the moon, the beautiful example here was delivered new to Lawson Oates Dodge in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and it has already been the recipient of a professional restoration. The Daytona program was birthed as soon as the 1969 Daytona 500 was over (which Dodge had lost), and the racing edicts of the day required a minimum of 500 units be built.
Actually, 503 Dodge Daytonas were eventually created, using Charger R/T bodies and conversion work by subcontractor Creative Industries. With a believed-original 42,000 miles since new, this car retains its matching-numbers 440 CI Magnum V-8 engine backed by an A727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission as part of the A36 Performance Axle Package, which also resulted in a 3.55 Sure Grip differential and power brakes with front discs. This car has power steering as well. Of course, the streamlined nose and high rear spoiler are instant identifiers, and the car is finished in beautiful R4 Bright Red with a black wing stripe and interior.
Inside is deluxe R/T trim, which includes front bucket seats, the C16 center console, A01 Light Group, tinted windshield, remote driver's mirror, 150 MPH speedometer and Tic-Toc-Tach, wood-grain accents and an AM radio. This car came with painted steel wheels, small-diameter chrome hubcaps and rides on redline tires. The cars were built to win, and the Dodge Daytona model took the 1970 NASCAR Grand National title. The street model offered here comes with a Dave Wise report verifying its optional equipment and features the color combination and packaging that will make it a special treasure for its next caretaker.
