The BMW Z8 began life as a styling exercise inspired by the classic BMW 507 Roadster of 1956 to 1960. Conceived by famed New York impresario Max Hoffmann and designed by Count Albrecht von Goertz, the 507 was instantly judged the most beautiful car in the world, but it proved overly costly and was abandoned when its production began threatening BMW’s very existence. However, that’s certainly not the case with the incredibly successful (and profitable) Z8 Roadster, which BMW designers Chris Bangle, Henrik Fisk and Scott Lempert produced by imagining what the 507 would have become after 40 years of styling evolution.
One of 2,543 produced for North America from 2000 to 2003, this 2000 BMW Z8 Roadster is a one-owner Canadian market example that demonstrates the Z8’s many strengths.
