Launched in 1980, the Alfa Romeo GTV6 is widely regarded as one of the most charismatic driver’s cars of its era. Styled by Giugiaro and powered by Alfa Romeo’s evocative 2.5 litre Busso V6, it combined sharp handling with a distinctive soundtrack, while its transaxle layout delivered excellent balance. Today, the GTV6 enjoys a strong following as a rare and engaging modern classic.
This example benefits from a particularly appealing history, having been purchased in 1992 by our vendor’s stepfather. After some light mechanical fettling, it was enjoyed briefly before being placed into storage in 1994, where it remained largely untouched for around 20 years. In 2014, the car passed to our vendor, who had always held a great affection for it, and she subsequently undertook a recommissioning programme costing in the region of £7,000. By 2016, the car was back on the road and ready to be enjoyed once more.
Since its return to use, the GTV6 has been driven sparingly, most notably on a classic car club trip to Belgium, where it is said to have performed beautifully. Today, it presents as an honest and original example. There is some light surface corrosion visible on the driver’s side rear wheel arch, at the bottom of the front wings and around the sunroof, while the interior remains in good condition overall, aside from some wear to the driver’s seat bolster. A rare and characterful Alfa Romeo, this GTV6 represents an excellent opportunity for an enthusiast to further enhance and enjoy a true modern classic. Consigned by Fraser Smith
