Serial No. 145, this 2004 Acura NSX-T is one of only 197 produced that year and one of just 21 completed in bright Formula Red with a Camel interior. Introduced at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show, the NSX changed the rules defining play in the supercar game. The F-16 fighter jet inspired its advanced aerodynamics and styling, and it was powered by an all-aluminum 3.0L V-6 engine featuring Honda’s VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) system developed in the 1980s.
Honda’s more than two decades in the top echelons of international racing, including Formula One, were brought to bear on the NSX’s forged-aluminum independent double-wishbone suspension, power rack-and-pinion steering and 4-wheel ventilated power disc brakes. There were more than 20 other significant technological innovations incorporated into the NSX, among which were traction control, twin-plate clutch, a dual-volume intake tract to flatten the torque curve, a compact planetary differential with multi-disc limited slip, 4-channel anti-lock brakes, advanced aluminum body-shell production techniques, self-rebounding polypropylene bumpers and flat roller CV joints.
From the very beginning the NSX underwent continual refinement, including wider wheels and tires, the availability of a Targa roof and improvements to the engine and driveline. Sold new at Acura of Orange Park in Jacksonville, Florida, this 2004 Acura NSX-T is a highly original example showing 8,925 miles and powered by the 3.2L/290 HP DOHC V-6 engine introduced in 1997 and matched with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
In addition to its original sheet metal and Formula Red paint, this example boasts the NSX’s exceptionally comfortable cockpit, dressed in leather and offering cruise control, a leather-wrapped shifter and steering wheel on a tilt/telescopic column, power windows and locks, Acura/Bose stereo and Targa roof. This NSX-T is offered with the original window sticker, books, keys and a custom red-satin stretch vehicle cover.
