The 5.3L/375 HP DOHC V-8 was delayed until September 27, 1969, when AML announced its readiness for production. Larger than its predecessor and known as the DBSV8, the new car was a 4-seat grand touring machine capable of 160 MPH, making it the fastest 4-seater production car in the world at the time. Although larger and more angularly shaped than past models, the DBS benefitted from wind tunnel development and retained the hood scoop, uniquely sculpted grille and side vents with stainless trim that characterized earlier models, although the purr that emanated from the inline-6 was now replaced by the throaty rumble of the double overhead cam V-8. The Kent Green metallic paint of this 1970 DBS coupe attracted the attention of Fran Green, who promptly purchased the car for the Verde Classics Collection.     Aston Martin DBS V8, 1972

    Chassis No.: DBSV810385RCA Engine No.: V540339 Registration: DPP 827K From 1970 through to 1972, Aston's flagship model was the DBS V8. Although the body and name was shared with the six-cylinder DBS, the V8 sold for much more. The V8 engine had begun development in the mid-sixties when it was first used in a Lola Sports racing car with a view to replacing the six-cylinder unit which had been in production since the DB4 in 1958. Aston Martin had converted a DB5 with an early V8 engine which was used for many thousands of development miles by the factory to create a usable and powerful eight-cylinder engine to be used in the new the DBS model that was due for production in 1968. Unfortunately the engine wasn't ready in time for the launch of the DBS and went on sale fitted with the six-cylinder engine used in the DB6. In 1971, the DBS V8 was launched, fitted with the long awaited Tadek Marek designed V8; an engine which powered all Aston Martin models until the launch of the DB7 in the early nineties. The body was a modern reinterpretation of the traditional Aston Martin look, with a squared-off grille and four headlights. Distinguishing features of the V8 model are the larger front air dam and lack of wire wheels, although some six-cylinder DBS cars also used the V8's alloy wheels. A DBS V8 was to be used by Roger Moore in the television show, ‘The Persuaders’. Originally registered on 21st February 1972, this stunning Aston Martin is finished in the delightful colour combination of black with black leather interior. Purchased by the vendor in February 2015, the car immediately underwent a five-year restoration project resulting in one of the finest DBS’s available anywhere today. The car was stripped to bare metal and any corroded areas cut-out and refabricated as necessary. The V8 engine was rebuilt as was the automatic gearbox. The brakes have been completely overhauled as has the front and rear suspension. The fuel injectors are new and the fuel injection pump has been refurbished. The starter motor, radiator and air conditioning have all been refurbished accordingly. New hoses, windscreen and rubbers, and tyres have all been fitted. The gauges have been refurbished and the chromework, of which there is plenty, has either been renewed or refurbished. The interior has been renovated but where possible the original leather retained, resulting in a delightful patina. In 1989, the history file confirms the mileage at that time to be 67,748 hence the current odometer reading of 72,357 could well be correct, although not warranted. Supplied with a registration document and a good history folder, the car has recently been tuned by Northampton Motorsports although it should be pointed out it has only done a few hundred miles since being fully rebuilt so it was only taken to 4,000rpm.     Chassis No.: DBS/5136/R Engine No.: 400/3695/S Registration: RAX 120F Following on from the DB6, the DBS was initially conceived as a limited production, fast two-seater and prepared to accommodate the new Tadek Marek-designed V8 engine. The DBS evolved throughout its development cycle to include deeper spoilers and better ventilation. The ‘four-headlight’ DBS has become highly valued and a very early manual car, such as this, is one of the most sought-after versions, appreciated as both collectible and eminently useable on an everyday basis. It has certain important and unique features, lost in later models, such as the wood panel dash and the distinctive 'three flutes' behind the rear windows, both of which make the car more attractive than the later cars. The AML Build sheet indicates that it was a factory demonstrator from October 1968 until December that year when documents detail transfer to the second owner, a Mr. Vickers of London. Little history exists of its early life until 1992 when it was discovered standing in a barn for 10 years, with the engine head off, awaiting attention. It was subsequently sent to a restorer in Hailsham, East Sussex where the car was dismantled but re-assembly never took place, although the engine appeared to be in one piece. It was fully eight years later that, at the owner’s request, Aston Martin Specialists, Newlands Motors, collected the car from Hailsham in late 2000 and set about restoring the car. They fully expected to have to work on the engine, but running it up after re-assembly, the pressures and functions were 100%. There was a brief couple of years of intermittent usage before the car was returned to storage for another four years until the current owner who asked Newlands Motors to recommission the car resulting in an invoice of nearly £8,500. It was in 2010, that Aston Martin specialists Byron International, were asked to market the car on behalf of the owner and it quickly found a new home with an enthusiast in France. There it has remained for the past 10 years, enjoyed and used sparingly. Making the decision to part company with the car did not stop the owner in ensuring the mechanical elements were in tiptop condition, replacing gaskets and servicing the car as late as December last year. From 2000-2012, Newlands Motors have been serviced it regularly and comprehensively and from 2013, there were a number of different specialists until 2015 when it arrived at RS Williams albeit briefly. Aston Workshops in 2017, then various others, including RS Williams, for sundry servicing. Latterly AES, specialist Aston Martin engineers in Leiston but more importantly, since February 2021, it has been looked after by Vantage Engineering in West Sussex, a highly recommended firm, for its preparation for sale. With its predecessors, the DB4, DB5, and DB6, still commanding huge premiums on the current value of a DBS for cars of similar condition, this represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a six-cylinder Aston Martin from the hand-built era of the marque. https://www.historics.co.uk/auction/lot/?lot=4453&au=78
