The 356C was the final series, which debuted in July 1963. While differing little at first glance from the prior 356B, the 356C was carefully improved and refined throughout. Body suppliers were now streamlined, with Karmann in Osnabrück supplying coupes and Porsche, which had just purchased Reutter Carrosserie, building the cabriolets in Stuttgart. Mechanical advancements applied to the 356C included standard 4-wheel disc brakes, 15-inch wheels with smaller ventilation holes and revised hubcaps, suspension improvements and deeper bucket-type reclining seats by Reutter. Engine development was led by Hans Mezger, with Porsche’s pushrod-type engine lineup reorganized and improved. A development of the prior 1600 Super engine specification, the updated 1600 SC unit was a technical achievement, belying its seemingly modest 95 HP factory rating (107 HP American SAE). The all-synchromesh 4-speed gearbox, taut suspension and sharp steering response of the 356C provided a thrilling drive. In total, 16,668 examples of the 356C were built. Coupe production ended on January 21, 1965, and the last cabriolet left Porsche’s Zuffenhausen works on April 28, 1965. Hailing from the final year of Porsche 356 production, this rare SC model is handsomely finished in black with a matching convertible top and complemented by a green full leather interior with headrests. Power is provided by the rebuilt matching-numbers 1.6L SC flat 4-cylinder engine rated at 95 HP and paired with a rebuilt 4-speed manual transmission. Other choice highlights include the wood steering wheel with deluxe horn ring and the chrome wheels.
