There have been seven versions of the Subaru WRX dating back from the original World Rally Cross staging vehicles. WRX has been used since 1992 and stands for ‘World Rally Experimental’ as each model features rally inspired technology, including all wheel drive, stiffened suspension and turbocharged engines. In 1994, Subaru introduced the title ‘Subaru Tecnica International’ which denoted models upgraded from WRX and badged them STi. The ‘Final Edition’ model includes the familiar Subaru 2.5 turbocharged engine and permanent four-wheel drive system, however tweaks were made to the transmission and the braking system benefitted from six-pot Brembo calipers finished in DayGlo Yellow.
Supplied by Simpsons Subaru of Witney in 2017, this one owner ‘Final Edition’ model presents well in the classic blue of the Subaru rally team. This car is number 52 of the limited 150 produced and retains until November, the balance of the manufacturer’s warranty. There are few driving experiences quite like a Subaru, which has in its DNA the spirit of a competition car. Reassuringly, this is backed with its permanently engaged symmetrical four-wheel drive system which delivers traction and peace of mind. This one owner, low mileage example is offered to auction with a stamped service book, a security system and a V5C registration document. The phrase ‘you don’t know what you’ve got until its gone’ could easily have been penned with the Subaru ‘Final Edition’ in mind.
