100 limited edition XJR-S' were made, of which 50 were coupes and 50 were convertibles. The purpose of the special edition was to target a younger US buyer to the Jaguar nameplate. The cars were only offered in two colors, black and red. Therefore only 25 of each model and color were made. While Jaguars have always been known for luxury and performance, Jaguar staff enlisted Tom Walkinsaw Racing (TWR) for the custom upgrades. Walkinsaw was the man who had successfully campaigned the XJ-S in the Touring Car Championship from 1982 to 1984. This joint venture relationship, split 50/50, was called Jaguar Sport.
XJR-S model features color coded front/rear bumpers with matching side skirts, front bumper air dam, rear boot/deck spoiler, headlamp surrounds and were all color coordinated to the exterior body. Speedliner 16' alloy wheels were fitted with low profile radial tires. Mechanically the suspension was modified and stiffened featuring Bilstein shocks, harder radius arm mounts and front steering bushings and less resistance power steering. Performance modifications include an enhanced and model specific 318hp 6.0L V12 with racing bred digital engine management and multi-port tuned fuel injection.
As a final note this vehicle was US rated at 160mph, one of the world's most powerful cars in its day. This car has 34,642 original miles and has been well maintained. There is a commemorative silver plate on the console, made by Asprey, which provides evidence of the build number. This cars documentation also included the unique TWR engine number and serial number indicative of a true TWR XJR-S. From the Jimmy Richardson Collection.
