The Ferrari F355 built on the heritage of the last Enzo Ferrari-produced mid-engined V-8-powered 328 model with powertrain and ergonomics refinements that propelled it through a successful production run from 1994-99. In 1997, Ferrari tapped into its Formula One race program and outfitted the F355 with a F1-derived paddle-shifted automatic transmission and created the Ferrari 355 F1 Berlinetta, GTS and Spider. The first power-operated convertible top from Maranello joins the first paddle-shifted automatic transmission in this 1999 Ferrari F355 Spider that stands ready to carry on the proud Ferrari open sports-car tradition with just 22,508 miles on its odometer.
With DOHC 5-valve cylinder heads, dry-sump oiling and Bosch engine management, the 3.5L V-8 is factory rated for 370 HP at 8,250 RPM. The mid-mounted engine is linked to an F355 6-speed automatic transmission equipped with electro-hydraulically actuated shift control for Grand Prix quick-and-accurate gear changes by way of steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters. Tuned independent suspension, 4-wheel disc brakes and previously unheard of power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering make for more civilized around-town supercar driving without any loss of road feedback and handling.
The Pininfarina-designed body underwent more than 1,800 hours of wind tunnel in development testing and is finished into Grigio Ingrid Silver. Lowering the power-operated top reveals a black leather interior with bolstered sports seating for two, sports steering wheel with airbag and traditional recessed gauges. F1-derived gearbox shift management means the console features a small forward-reverse lever in place of the famously demanding gated shifter. With both hands on the wheel and no clutch pedal, the driver can focus on repeated run-ups to redline and the accompanying wail from the 180-degree crankshaft 40-valve V-8.
Factory alloy wheels are outfitted with top-rated Michelin Pilot Sport tires for supercar-level grip.
