While Ferrari achieved great success on and off the race track with its mid-engine cars, the company lineage was established with a front-engine rear-wheel drive architecture. The 550 Maranello marked a return of the front-engine Ferrari after over two decades of absence. Following an extensive development period, the reborn grand touring coupe and spiritual descendant of the late-Sixties 365 GTB/4 Daytona made its debut in 1996 at Nurburgring with V-12 power and a contemporary take on classic Ferrari style. This 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello is replete in a signature Ferrari color combination.
The modern iteration of the classic Ferrari formula recently underwent a service at Ferrari of Beverly Hills, California and has traveled just 9,173 miles since leaving the factory in the northern Italian town from which the coupe takes its name. At the heart of the Ferrari Maranello is a 5.5-liter 12-cylinder engine. With four valves per cylinder and quad camshafts the engine is factory rated for 485 horsepower at 7000 RPM and 419 lb-ft of torque at 5000 RPM. The V-12 is backed by a rare 6-speed manual transmission in a rear-mounted transaxle for optimal weight distribution and balance. A gated shifter channels power through a limited slip differential to the rear wheels.
The 550 Maranello is capable of a 0-60 time of just 4.6 seconds and a top speed of close to 200 MPH. Independent suspension with front and rear anti roll bars coupled with 4-wheel disc brakes and vented rotors deliver confident road control. The Pininfarina designed coupe is finished in Rosso Corsa with a beige leather interior fitting of the Italian grand touring machine. Dual-zone climate control provides comfort and convenience. This rising modern classic has been driven only 9,173 miles and comes with its original factory issue books and tool set.
