Ferrari bosses launched a signal of intent when the marque’s all-new 550 Maranello was unveiled at the prestigious Nürburgring circuit in 1996. The name of the grand tourer proudly acknowledged its powerful 5.5-litre displacement, and the model was intended to propel Ferrari’s 12-cylinder grand tourer platform into the modern age—having not built a car to such a configuration since the 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’ in the 1970s. In 2000, Ferrari revealed a barchetta variant of the 550. The soft-top car was intended to honour the 70th anniversary of Pininfarina, Ferrari’s long-standing design partner, which had originally styled the 550.
The example offered here was delivered new via Scuderia Auto Becker GmbH of Düsseldorf, Germany, on 28 June 2001. The Ferrari has led a sheltered life since, having covered just over 6,000 kilometres at the time of cataloguing. The 550 Barchetta Pininfarina has been well maintained since new, with the history file containing no fewer than nine service invoices amounting to €22,788.34. The most recent service and timing belt replacement was carried out in September 2023 by Maranello Motors GmbH of Cologne at a cost of €5,453.03.

Les dirigeants de Ferrari ont effectué une déclaration d'intention quand la marque a dévoilé en 1996 la toute nouvelle 550 Maranello sur le prestigieux circuit du Nürburgring. Le nom de la voiture annonçait la cylindrée de 5,5 litres et le modèle était conçu pour propulser dans l'ère moderne la plateforme Ferrari 12-cylindres Grand Tourisme — aucun modèle n'affichant une telle architecture n'avait été proposé depuis la 365 GTB/4 "Daytona", dans les années 70. En 2000, Ferrari a présenté une version Barchetta de la 550.
