Unlike their preceding 348 and 355 Challenge models, Ferrari’s 360 Challenge variant was, from the outset, designated for competition use only. Whilst the earlier two models had relied upon individual Ferrari main dealers upgrading existing road-legal cars by means of a factory-supplied competition pack, the 360 Challenge was built entirely in Maranello as a race car.
Powered by a substantially standard version of the road car’s 410 horsepower 3.6-litre V-8 engine, the 360 Challenge tipped the scales at almost 200 kilograms less than the standard 360 Modena, resulting in a significantly improved power to weight ratio. Much of this was achieved by the removal of heavy interior trim items, whilst corresponding race-inspired improvements included the fitment of competition specification Brembo disc brakes, adjustable dampers, Bosch-controlled ABS, a racing exhaust system and an LCD dash display.
One of just 270 360 Challenges believed to have been constructed between 2000 and 2003, unusually this particular car was originally delivered in the colour of Bianco Avus. Previously prepared and run by FF Corse, it has recently been used extensively for track days, including several organised by Club Fiorano UK.
It has recently benefitted from a re-spray in its original colour, a refurbishment of its plexiglass windows, and has previously been fitted with new brake discs, as well as dry break and regular fuel nozzle inlets. With a passenger seat and track day silencer presently fitted, it is ready for immediate and exhilarating track day use. Alternatively, it would eligible for numerous Club racing events such as those organised by the Ferrari Owners Club and AMOC in the UK, or by HSR in the United States.
