Combining avant-garde Pininfarina styling with highly acclaimed V-12 performance, Ferrari’s 330 GT 2+2 was a fast and comfortable four-seat grand touring model aimed directly at America’s robust export market. Following the 250 GTE 2+2 and 330 America, the 330 GT 2+2 debuted at the 1964 Brussels Motor Show, featuring a new chassis with power delivered by the Tipo 209 Colombo-derived V-12 engine displacing 4.0L. Capable of exceeding 150 MPH, the 330 GT 2+2 was an ideal grand touring machine and the fastest Ferrari road car when new. It was also reputed to have been among Enzo Ferrari’s favorite road models. Three iterations of the 330 GT 2+2 are recognized.
Production numbers cited by Ferrari marque expert Marcel Massini include 505 Series I cars built for 1963-65 with the canted four-headlamp frontal treatment and 4-speed gearbox plus overdrive, 120 “Interim” models for 1965 with a 5-speed transmission, and 460 Series II cars with a two-headlamp design and 5-speed transmission for 1965-67. Bearing Chassis No. 6171, this Series I 1964 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 was delivered new in Italy, according to Hillary Raab’s essential book, “Ferrari Serial Numbers: Part I.” An extensive cosmetic restoration was completed in 2025, including stripping of the body to bare metal and a repaint in Nero.
The Tipo 209 3967cc/296 HP SOHC Colombo V-12 engine sports triple Weber twin-choke carburetors and delivers the power through a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The independent front suspension features coil springs, and the live rear axle is located via semi-elliptical leaf springs. Stopping power is delivered by 4-wheel Dunlop disc brakes. Veglia instruments and a wood-rimmed steering wheel greet the driver. An upgraded Alpine stereo delivers entertainment in addition to the unforgettable exhaust note of the V-12 engine. Borrani wire-spike wheels provide the crowning touch to this renowned grand touring Ferrari.
