    Lotus 2-Eleven, 2008

Chassis No.: SCCNA12368HH21227 • Exterior: Green • Interior: Black • 13-piece Coremat composite body • Supercharged 1.8/300 HP engine • 179 ft/lbs of torque • Upgraded ECU and pulley • Race exhaust system and header • 6-speed manual gearbox • Sector 111 performance transmission cooler • Variable traction and launch control system • Race-derived braking system with upgraded GiroDisc rotors and pads • Rear chassis support brace • Enlarged and baffled oil pan • Enlarged fuel tank with upgraded fuel pump The 2008 Lotus 2-Eleven is a contemporary embodiment of the famously effective race-car design philosophy of Lotus founder Colin Chapman summed up by the oft-quoted phrase "simplify, then add lightness.” With heritage stretching back to the 1952 Lotus Mark VI and subsequent Lotus 7, the 2-Eleven roadster is built on thoroughly modern Lotus Elise architecture and weighs just 1,650 pounds. Unencumbered by doors or roof, the bonded-aluminum and composite-bodied sports racer is capable of a sprinting from 0-60 MPH in 3.8 seconds and sails past 100 MPH 5-seconds later on its way to an electronically limited 150 MPH. Mounted transversely amidships is a Lotus Sport-tuned version of the supercharged and intercooled 1.8L DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder engine from the heavier Lotus Elise S. The revised and performance-mapped ECU works with an upgraded fuel pump, underdrive pulleys, high-flow header and race-spec exhaust for 300 HP and 179 lb-ft of torque. A larger-capacity baffled oil pan helps the engine withstand racing punishment, and the 6-speed manual gearbox is plumbed with a Sector 111 transmission-gear oil cooler for improved durability and repeated run-ups to the 8,000-RPM engine redline. The 13-piece Coremat non-woven polyester-core composite body-paneling wears traditional Lotus British-racing green-and-yellow paint livery and weighs just more than 80 pounds. ECU-integrated launch control with adjustable traction channels power to the rear wheels, and the Lotus Racing-derived braking system is equipped with GrioDisc rotors and pads work to consistently scrub off accumulated velocity. Safety is built in with an integral roll cage and bucket seats with 5-point harnesses. This Lotus 2-Eleven is unfortunately not certified for use on public roads or highways but is certainly ready for closed-course track days or sanctioned-series racing action. https://www.mecum.com/lots/300068/2008-lotus-2-eleven/

Lotus Eleven Series Race Car, 1956

Chassis No.: 189 $50,000 | Sold • Engine: Inline 4-cylinder • Transmission: Manual • Exterior: Silver • Interior: Red • Body: Race Car • 1098cc Inline 4-cylinder engine • 4-speed manual transmission • Silver bare aluminum exterior • No. 115 livery One of only 270 Lotus Elevens produced, this 1956 Lotus Eleven Series Race car- serial # 189 – is a remarkable survivor and is fitted with its period-correct 1098cc Coventry Climax inline 4-cylinder engine and clothed in bare aluminum with a proper red minimalist interior. Considered by many as the quintessential Lotus, the Eleven series was the car that earned the respect for the Lotus marque. Built from 1956-1958, the Eleven made an indelible imprint on the racing world with its “Index of Performance” award at the 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans race, seventh overall finish at the 1956 Le Mans race and its class world record achievement of 143 MPH lap at Monza, Italy, driven by Stirling Moss. Designed by Colin Chapman, the Lotus Eleven embodied his three main design principles – light overall vehicle weight, light up-sprung rotating mass weight and wind-cheating aerodynamic body design. The Lotus Eleven embodies this design ethos with its feather-light weight of 1,000 pounds and a sleek aluminum body with a very low coefficient of drag. Ironically, Chapman used ubiquitous and easily available parts in the construction of his cars. The Coventry Climax inline 4-cylinder engine was a masterpiece of engineering whose original “reason-for-being” was that of a fire pump engine that boosted water pressure to fight fires. It was of aluminum construction – as opposed to the heavy cast iron engines of the day – and was mounted on a portable skid when used to fight fires. Its light weight enabled the Coventry-Climax engine to be easily transported to any fire hydrant and hooked up for service. Colin Chapman recognized its brilliance and used it extensively in his racing cars. The body shell material was sourced from war surplus supply houses that held a large inventory of World War II aluminum from the retired Spitfire airplanes. https://www.mecum.com/lots/1103581/1956-lotus-eleven-series-race-car/
