    Ford Escort GT, 1987

Chassis No.: 1FAPP23J5HW309875 • Exterior: Medium Red • Interior: Medium Gray • Highly original condition • Medium Red Metallic clear/coat finish • 1.9L HO inline 4-cylinder engine • 5-speed manual transmission • 3.73 final drive ratio • Power steering • Power brakes with front discs • Medium Gray sport bucket seat interior • Tilt steering column • Rear window defroster • Speed control • Air conditioning • AM/FM/Cassette stereo • Tinted glass • Recent professional detail • Always serviced at owner’s Ford dealership • Clean undercarriage • Marti Report By introducing the Escort GT model in 1987, Ford aimed to tap into the youth market to continue the Escort’s status as the world’s best-selling car. Offering sportiness, performance and good fuel economy at a low price, the Escort GT combined sporty looks, nifty handling and a souped-up 4-cylinder to inject a performance image into the economy-based Escort. This Medium Red Metallic 1987 Escort GT remains in highly original condition and has been maintained and serviced at the owner’s Ford dealership. The first-year Escort GT is equipped with a Medium Gray sport bucket-seat interior, a 5-speed manual transmission, air conditioning, speed control and an AM/FM/cassette stereo. When Ford introduced the North American version of the Escort in 1981 as a replacement for the Pinto, the subcompact car was essentially an economy vehicle like the one it replaced. As the first “world car” produced by Ford, the front-wheel drive Escort shared componentry with the European MkIII Escort. The Escort GT was added in 1987 as part of a revised three-trim lineup. Available as a three-door hatchback only, the GT was readily identified by its asymmetrical grille, front air dam with built-in fog lamps, wheel flares, a rear spoiler, blackout paint treatment, wheel spats, body and rocker panel moldings, and performance tires mounted on 8-spoke aluminum wheels. For the GT, the Escort’s 4-wheel independent suspension was tuned for sporty handling with specially valved shocks and struts, plus larger stabilizer bars. Even better, the GT came with an H.O. version of the 1.9L 4-cylinder engine. Rated at 108 HP, 22 more than the standard Escort, the GT’s extra power came from multiport fuel injection, tuned intake and exhaust manifolds, a performance camshaft with roller tappers and a lightweight flywheel. Fresh from a recent professional detailing, this 1987 Escort GT features a clean undercarriage and comes with its Marti Report. https://www.mecum.com/lots/502561/1987-ford-escort-gt/

    Ford Escort L, 1986

Chassis No.: WFOAXXGCAAGT00001 Registration: C830 BOT Offered without reserve The third generation Escort, codenamed 'Erika', was launched in September 1980. The car, Ford Europe's second front-wheel drive, was originally meant to be called the 'Ford Erika' but ended up retaining the Escort name. Sales in the United Kingdom increased and, by 1982, it had overtaken the ageing Cortina as the nation's best-selling car and beginning an eight-year run as Britain's bestseller. Unlike the Mk. II, which had essentially been a reskin of the original 1968 platform, the Mk. III was a completely new 'wheels-up' design and was conceived as a hi-tech, high-efficiency vehicle which would compete with the Volkswagen Golf, considered at the time the class benchmark, and indeed the car was launched with the advertising tagline "Simple is Efficient". This is an early Escort L presented in silver with four doors, hatchback, five speed gearbox and powered by a 1300cc engine, this car is being sold with various Ford manuals and a current V5 registration document and also a new MoT test certificate with no advisories. Consigned by James Good Interested parties please note that the description of this vehicle has been changed substantially owing to new evidence which Historics were unaware of at the time of printing of the catalogue. It is not as described in the Auction catalogue. https://www.historics.co.uk/auction/lot/?lot=18257&au=96

    Ford Escort RS Turbo, 1987

Chassis No.: WF0BXXGCABHS08190 Registration: E940 ELM • Bare metal repaint • Factory ordered black The 'Series 2' Escort RS Turbo (produced between 1986-1990) was much more approachable on the road, whereas the earlier car was, in reality, a bit of a 'homologation special'. Many new features were adopted for the Series 2 including utilising the 1600cc, fuel-injected CVH engine from the Series 1 Turbo but now fitted with the Garret T3 turbo (water-cooled, unlike the S1), revised engine management settings, lower overall gearing, an improved gearbox and limited-slip differential, a larger clutch, improved KE Jetronic unit, and an inter-cooler. Suspension and chassis changes included stiffer front and rear springs, uprated anti-roll bars, mechanical ABS and larger brakes. The Series 2 car produced an impressive 132bhp at 5750rpm, with maximum torque of 133 lb/ft at 2750rpm, giving it serious performance with a top speed of 125mph and a 0-60mph time of 8.3 seconds. Although on paper, these figures were a tad down on the Series 1, the new car was considerably easier to drive quickly and, effectively, was a faster car. First registered on 28th August 1987, this fantastic little RS Turbo has just been restored after being off road for 18 years. The car was stripped to bare metal and repainted in its original colour of Black. Fitted with an aluminium radiator and uprated exhaust, the car presents very well. Whilst there are a few details left to complete such as sourcing the centre caps for the refurbished alloy wheels, the vendor reports the car to run and drive very well and just needs someone to finish off a few final details. Supplied with a V5C registration document, photographic record of the restoration, as well as a host of spare parts. Ever popular and with a cult following, these wonderful hot hatches provide driving thrills from the 1600cc turbo engine along with cool 1980’s period looks.
