Not your typical Spyder re-creation. This car was originally built in 1996 by Thunder Ranch, but was disassembled and rebuilt with an entirely new drivetrain in 2009, using some of the best components available. The engine is a 2276cc flat 4 air cooled with forced induction by a Borg Warner T3 turbo charger that will produce up to 18lbs of boost. Snow Performance methanol injection system and an MSD ignition system with boost retard helps to keep things under control. With lots of horsepower and less than 1600 lbs, this car is not for the faint of heart.
Power is transferred to the ground through a type 1 transaxle with lots of upgrades including a Quaife differential and a double disc clutch system. Boost is controlled by a Turbosmart waste gate, blow off valve and dual boost controller which lets you switch between two boost settings from the drivers seat. With it's light weight and low center of gravity, the handling is phenomenal and acceleration is absolutely brutal. A street legal race compound set of tires help to keep traction to the ground and 4 wheel disc brakes bring you back to reality. The Gear One pedals may be the best you can get and has front and rear adjustable brake bias.
It's been driven less than 1000 miles since the upgrades and was driven in Solo II events for one season with less than 20 miles in competition. Roll bar was built to meet SCCA and NHRA specs. It could be made removable and still meet SCCA requirements.
