One of only 15 examples built, this 14,300-mile Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster has been customized by FAB Design. It features full carbon front- and rear-bumper replacements, full wide-body front and rear quarter panels, wide-body side skirts, carbon fiber rear wing, specialized exhaust tips, front bumper with LED lights and a wide-body hood extension that cost a daunting $120,000. From there, the car was further enhanced with custom frame-off satin paint and professional installation and bodywork at a cost of $25,000; the build also includes a $10,000 set of Forgiato staggered forged wheels and tires and a complete $12,000 sound system.
The interior is dressed in red and black with carbon-fiber and aluminum trim, which matches the dark, matte gray and black exterior well. Certainly a one-of-a-kind machine, this SLR will turn heads and likely be the only one in the valet line or cruising the boulevard. The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren was built in limited numbers as a joint effort between Mercedes-Benz and its Formula 1 partner, McLaren. The supercharged 5.5L V-8 engine drummed up an inspiring 617 HP and could propel the coupe from 0-60 MPH in just more than 3-seconds. Swiss-based tuner FAB Design did well by producing a tailored-package program solely for the SLR.
The extensive package added a considerable sum to the overall cost of an SLR, but included things like a fully customized interior, boasting new leather upholsteries, colors, finishes and more; the bodies are completely disassembled, repainted with custom paints and colors, and then reassembled with the painstaking precision demanded by an SLR, but also with additional components lending to the signature FAB wide-body look. Extensive amounts of carbon fiber are used to achieve the extra width and look, which is entirely designed to reduce lift, increase downforce and enhance the overall stability and drivability.
With FAB massaging the engine to discover a whopping 750 HP and more than 1,000 lb-ft of torque, this is one stunning SLR.
