The Delta Intergrale was born out of the ban on Group B rally cars. The Lancia won 10 victories out of 11 rallies and the world title in WRC in 1988. The 8 valve Delta had won, ahead of every rival in every continent, demonstrating its unrivalled performance, reliability and durability. But Lancia did not let this lull them into complacency. The 16 valve HF Integrale was being developed and was to run alongside its stablemate during the 1989 season. The new car was identifiable from its predecessor by the raised centre of the bonnet created to accommodate the new 16 valve engine. The other exterior changes were; wider arches, wheels, tyres and new identity badges at the front and rear. The 16 valve Integrale was first shown to the public at the 1989 Geneva Motorshow.
Further development of the 16v engine included a Garrett T3 Turbocharger, larger injectors and a highly efficient intercooler. A new overboost provided 200bhp and 137mph performance with a 0-62mph time of 5.5 secs. Brisk, even by today’s standards. The road going Integrale is spirited and reliable and a hoot to drive, rewarding the driver with superb feedback and outstanding rally bred handling power.
The British public were keen to appreciate the car's WRC success and began importing them into the UK. This particular example from Italy arrived into Mr Perry’s care in 1996. All Lancia Delta’s were lefthand drive although some were converted upon arrival into this country. This car is an original specification non-sunroof example with its original beige Alcantara interior. Presented in Lancia Blanco, the colour of the works cars, the paint is superb, having had a highly professional respray in 2010. It looks as new today. The turbo, gearbox and brakes have all been overhauled and it has been freshly serviced by Autointegrale with all fluids, belts and tensioners having been changed.
The car has original specification dampers and springs and the brakes have new pads and a rebuilt master cylinder and rear load compensator. Dinitrol and Bilt Hamber protection has been applied. Many of these cars have been lowered and chipped but they are best avoided.
