From the mid-1960s until the early 1990s, Lancia was a major force in international rallying, winning the World Rally Championship for Makes no fewer than 11 times between 1972 and 1992, including a remarkable six successive victories commencing in 1987. During the same period, Lancia drivers won the European Rally Championship on 14 occasions and the World Drivers' Championship (only instigated in 1978) four times.

Badged as the Delta HF 4WD on its introduction in 1986, the model retained the Volumex supercharger initially before switching to a straightforward turbo when transformed into the Integrale in 1987. The latter would prove a supremely capable rally car, winning the World Championship in both 1987 and 1988, yet in road trim remained a thoroughly practical family hatchback. Integrale performance was boosted further by the introduction of a 16-valve cylinder head for the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine in 1989, maximum power increasing to 200bhp and top speed to around 220km/h.

Homologated to maintain the works rally team's competitive edge, the first Evoluzione models were manufactured towards the end of 1991, incorporating wider front and rear track; appropriately altered bodywork; and an engine re-mapped to produce 210bhp among many other detail improvements. The Evo 2 was essentially the same but came with a catalyst in the exhaust system. But it is the original Evoluzione that is nowadays generally recognised as having the closest connection to the original Group A cars and hence is the more desirable of the two.

With the Integrale's reputation firmly established, Lancia began offering a host of limited-edition variants, one of the rarest and most collectible being the 'Giallo Ferrari' (Ferrari Yellow), of which only 295 were built. Delivered new in Italy on 29th July 1992, the example we offer is remarkable in being original and unmodified, unlike so many of its contemporaries, which over the years have been treated to the wide variety of performance enhancements on offer. Indeed, even parts the original factory coverings are still in place on the rear carpets!

Furthermore, this car comes complete with its original books, jack, tool kit, and safety triangle, and is equipped with ABS, air-conditioning, and leather-trimmed Recaro seats. It is worthwhile noting that as the Evoluzione family approaches its 30th birthday in 2021, these cars are becoming eligible for importation into the USA, and outstandingly original examples such as this one can only become increasingly collectible. In short: this is a wonderful opportunity to acquire one of the rarest and most desirable sporting road cars of its era, possessing a competition pedigree second to none.

Au cours de la même période, les pilotes Lancia remportèrent le championnat d'Europe des rallyes à 14 reprises et le championnat du monde des pilotes (inauguré en 1978) quatre fois.

Baptisée Delta HF 4WD à sa présentation en 1986, la voiture reprenait au départ le compresseur Volumex avant qu'il ne soit remplacé par un turbocompresseur lorsqu'elle prit le nom d'Integrale en 1987. Celle-ci allait se montrer une voiture de rallye redoutable, gagnant le championnat du monde en 1987 et 1988, tout en restant une berline familiale tout à fait pratique dans sa version routière. Les performances firent encore un bond avec l'adoption d'une culasse à 16 soupapes sur le quatre cylindres 2 litres en 1989, la puissance maximale montant à 200 ch et la vitesse de pointe à 220 km/h.

Homologuée pour maintenir l'équipe de rallye compétitive, les premiers modèles Evoluzione furent construits vers la fin de 1991, adoptant des voies avant et arrière plus larges avec une carrosserie modifiée en conséquence et un moteur cartographié différemment pour offrir 210 ch entre autres améliorations de détail. L'Evo 2 était pratiquement identique mais était équipée d'un pot catalytique. Toutefois c'est la première Evoluzione qui est aujourd'hui généralement reconnue comme étant la plus proche des voitures originales du Groupe A et de fait la version la plus séduisante pour les collectionneurs.

Une fois la réputation de l'Integrale bien établie, Lancia commença à proposer des versions en série limitée, l'une des plus rares et des plus recherchées étant la « Giallo Ferrari » (jaune Ferrari), dont seulement 295 unités ont été construites. Livré neuf en Italie le 29 juillet 1992, l'exemplaire que nous proposons est remarquable par le fait qu'il est dans son état d'origine, jamais modifié contrairement à beaucoup de ses contemporains qui au cours des année ont subi de multiples modifications pour les rendre plus performants. Les protections d'usine sont toujours partiellement en place sur les tapis arrière !

De plus, la voiture a conservé son livret, son cric, sa trousse à outils et son triangle de signalisation d'origine et elle est équipée de l'ABS, de l'air conditionné et de sièges en cuir Recaro. Il faut aussi signaler que comme la famille Evoluzione approche de son 30e anniversaire en 2021, ces voitures seront bientôt autorisées à l'exportation aux États-Unis et que les modèles entièrement d'origine comme celui-ci seront de plus en plus recherchés. En résumé, voilà une fantastique opportunité d'acquérir une des plus rares et des plus séduisantes sportives de route de son époque, possédant un héritage en compétition sans précédant.
