When Lamborghini debuted its 1999 Diablo SV, it marked another milestone for the Italian firm that built its reputation building dream cars like the groundbreaking Miura and outrageous Countach. This particular ‘90s supercar underwent a comprehensive $125,000 mechanical and interior restoration by Lamborghini specialist George Evans. With otherworldly scissor doors and a bellicose V-12 that sounds out a distinctive exhaust note that absolutely shrieks at full throttle, this raging bull is no shrinking violet. One of only 27 Diablo SVs produced for the U.S.
Market and one of just three that left the Sant'Agata Bolognese factory in 1999 wearing the $8,200 optional Rossa Vic Pearl paint, the Diablo comes with restoration receipts and a photo album. The longitudinally mid-mounted engine is a work of art, with four valves per cylinder, variable timing, electronic fuel injection and a dry-sump oil system helping the 5.7L V-12 produce a pulse-quickening 530 HP. Power is put to the ground through a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Brembo disc brakes with drilled two-piece rotors and ABS lurk behind the original OZ Rally three-piece light aluminum-alloy wheels with Pirelli P Zero tires.
Legendary Italian designer Marcello Gandini worked together with the Chrysler Styling Center to give rise to the Diablo in 1990, and Lamborghini closed out the decade with a restyling of the model that included fixed headlamps and an updated interior. On this example, the Rossa Vic Pearl paint is adorned with factory-option SV side decals, and scissor doors open to reveal a wraparound dash, door panels and seats upholstered in Snow Corn leather with red stitching and piping to match the red carpet.
A black leather-wrapped steering wheel sits over traditional instrumentation, with center-console controls, the gated shifter, factory air conditioning and an Alpine sound system within easy reach. Open the doors skyward, fire up the V-12 engine and hang on for a thrill ride.
