For years many Ferrari aficionados have held a nostalgic preference for the front engined 330 and 365 GTC V-12 berlinettas, magnificent Grand Touring cars long considered the best all-around Ferraris, two-seaters with ageless styling and front-mounted V-12 engines based on a shortened 2-plus-2 chassis. In 1996 Ferrari resurrected the theme in the 550 Maranello, another 2-seat adaptation, this time of the 465 GT. Named for its exotic DOHC 5.5L/485 HP V-12 engine and the home of Ferrari’s world headquarters, the 550 Maranello was another great Pininfarina design, one Sergio Pininfarina himself took to heart as one of his most rewarding Ferrari projects since the glory days of the 1950s.
While initially seeming too conservative to some critics, the 550 Maranello’s sleek shape has ultimately gained almost universal favor as one of Pininfarina’s best. Refined by over 4,800 hours in the wind tunnel, the Maranello is not only beautifully clean but also surprisingly aerodynamically effective, maintaining excellent stability right up to its 190 MPH top speed without the need for spoilers or other add-ons. A California car since 2003, this 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello has covered 37,326 miles, all documented with a detailed service history.
Its Rosso Corsa paint and Tan leather interior are a timeless Ferrari pairing, both of which present in outstanding overall condition that reflects great care of ownership. Fitted with the factory 5.5 liter V-12 and 6-speed manual transmission, the car was upgraded with Tubi exhaust in 2003 and received a clear bra installation in 2007.
