Introduced at the 1964 Brussels Motor Show, the Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 was a continuation of Ferrari’s four-seat, grand-touring 250 GT 2+2. Powered by a 3,967-cubic-centimeter development of the classic Colombo-designed V-12, the new model featured distinctive Pininfarina coachwork with quad headlamps. Approximately 625 examples were built through 1966 before the 330 was succeeded by a second-series iteration with dual headlamps and redesigned fender vents, lending the first-series cars a unique aesthetic that is preferred by many Ferrari collectors today.
This attractive 330 GT 2+2 was originally delivered to its first owner through Luigi Chinetti Motors, Inc. in Greenwich, CT. Finished from the factory in Rosso Corsa over Nero leather, the 330 would be offered for sale on the West Coast in the 1990s, where it has remained ever since. In 1996, it was purchased by Robert Warren of Washington state, who would go on to replace the wire wheels for suitable alloys, give the car a fresh coat of paint, and reupholster the interior in tan leather.
In 2014, following its long-term stewardship, chassis 6549 was relocated to Southern California. There, it was treated to a thorough, three-year restoration by marque experts Rex Nguyen Restorations in Los Angeles, totaling $105,000. On the exterior, a complete frame-off repaint in the stunning shade of Verde Metallico was commissioned. All brightwork trim was also polished or refurbished as necessary. Meanwhile, the interior was once again reupholstered, using Connolly Couio Naturale leather as well as period-correct carpet, vinyl, and trunk materials. Finally, key mechanical systems were replaced including brakes, exhaust, and cooling. New front springs, and an engine tune-up completed the restoration.
The car is an impressive Series I, replete with its matching chassis and engine stampings. Within the past year, further maintenance has been completed, making this 330 GT 2+2 ready for further enjoyment by its next caretaker, whether driven or shown at any number of events that surely will welcome it.
