Introduced at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the Aston Martin DB11 replaced the outgoing DB9 and made history as the company’s first model launched under its “Second Century” plan in association with Daimler AG. Designed under Aston Martin Head of Design Marek Reichman, the DB11’s chiseled exterior was styled by Miles Nurnburger and the interior was designed by Matt Hill. Construction is highly advanced, with the DB11 based upon an entirely new riveted and adhesive-bonded aluminum platform, offering greater interior room and serving as the basis for future Aston Martin models.
More than 1,400 examples of the DB11 were ordered during the vehicle’s Geneva premiere, and production commenced on September 28, 2016. Unusually, then Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer personally inspected the first 1,000 cars produced. Initially, a 5.2L/600 HP V-12 model was offered, with the DB11 V-8 available in the summer of 2017. Internally designated “M177,” this 4.0L twin-turbocharged V-8 engine was developed by the renowned engineers at Mercedes-AMG. Weighing 254 pounds less than the V-12, the new V-8 is factory-rated at 503 HP and delivers stunning performance and balance in concert with a rear-midmounted 8-speed automatic transmission.
