In 1962 Alfa Romeo began producing the 2600 line of big 6-cylinder powered cars. The 2600s used body designs borrowed from the 2000 saloon, the Bertone Sprint Coupe and the Pininfarina Spider. The 2600’s nomenclature came from its 2.6 liter version of the classic twin overhead cam all-aluminum engine, which delivered an impressive 145 horsepower. A particularly attractive car with restrained Touring coachwork, the Spider nonetheless sold in limited numbers despite the impressive performance afforded by its powerful twin-cam inline-6. Today, the 2600 Spider is favored by collectors as the last to use the twin-cam engine that had been integral to Alfa Romeo automobiles since the 1920s.
Mario Sueiras purchased this 1964 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider in good drivable and rust-free condition in 2004. He restored the car cosmetically and rebuilt the engine while retaining as many original parts as possible. Finished in White with a Black soft top, it retains the original Black interior, which remains in outstanding condition; even such details as the Touring badges and chromed trim remain in beautiful condition. Always stored in a dry environment, this rare Alfa Spider has been driven fewer than 150 miles.
