Lamborghini Says Goodbye to Manuals, Hello to Off-Road Performance

If you’ve been hoping Lamborghini would bring back a traditional gated manual gearbox, the brand has made its position clear—it isn’t happening. Chief Marketing and Sales Officer Federico Foschini confirmed that manual transmissions no longer fit Lamborghini’s vision, despite renewed interest sparked by Ferrari’s manual-equipped 12Cilindri. According to Foschini, while collectors may appreciate the nostalgia of a three-pedal setup, modern hybrid supercars and motorsport-inspired engineering demand faster, more advanced transmissions.

Instead, Lamborghini remains committed to paddle-shifted eight-speed dual-clutch gearboxes, which deliver the speed and precision expected from the brand’s latest high-performance models. As racing technology continues to influence production vehicles, Lamborghini believes this is the natural direction for its future lineup.

Rather than revisiting the past, the company is expanding into new territory. Foschini hinted that the successful Sterrato concept will evolve into a broader family of off-road-focused supercars. The recently introduced 907-horsepower (920 PS) plug-in hybrid Temerario has been identified as the ideal platform for future all-terrain variants, blending supercar performance with greater versatility.

Lamborghini also previewed another exciting project for enthusiasts. A lighter, more aggressive version of the Revuelto is expected to debut during Monterey Car Week, featuring extensive aerodynamic revisions, an updated carbon-fiber monofuselage, and the brand’s formidable 1,001-horsepower (1,015 PS) V12 hybrid powertrain.

While manual gearboxes may remain part of Lamborghini’s history, the company is clearly focused on hybrid technology, cutting-edge performance, and expanding the capabilities of its supercars beyond traditional paved roads. Would you rather see Lamborghini revive a classic manual transmission or continue pushing the limits of hybrid performance and off-road innovation?
